How to build your professional profile on social media

Social media has become the main point of communication not only personally but professionally too. With platforms such as LinkedIn making it even easier to network and connected with like minded people. With that it has become even more important to make sure that you present yourself professionally online. Follow the next steps to ensure you’re branding yourself the way you want.

Clean up your socials

Start by deleting any old accounts that you no longer use so that you can focus on the important ones. It’s a good step to filter through your current social accounts and remove any old and ‘questionable’ content that doesn’t reflect well on your professional image.

Keep your accounts up to date

Make sure all your information is correct and up to date such as your current job, if/what you’re studying etc. Potential employers who see you profile should be able to draw up a basic picture of your skills and what you’re like. Make sure they see the current you, not the old you.

Post Regularly

Creating your own posts and sharing others posts is a good way to engage with your network. Keep up to date with current issues, you own achievements and hobbies, and remember to interact with others. This will boost engagement on your pages and in turn will boost visitors.

Find and join pages/groups that are specific to your interests

Joining these groups will enable you to grow and engage with your network. This can help you to share insights and expertise which can benefit all of you.

Of course, it’s okay to have personal social media accounts too, just make sure you keep these separate and on private so the wrong people don’t end up seeing it!
