Spending time back at home

Your heading back home after university is a great way to compose your thoughts and start looking for work. You will be comfortable with home comforts as well as being more cost effective. Speak to your network of friends at home ask them if they know of any vacancies within your chosen sector. Get your CV updated and your LinkedIn. Check out the blogs within the links.

Further study

Maybe you’re looking at studying for a Masters or PhD. Take a good look at the options and see which suit you. A change of location can make a nice change so look around for accommodation or move back home and go to the local university for your masters. Your careers team can give you advice.

Gap Year

Some students finish university and take a gap year. With this they go travelling, they spend lots of time with family and friends and really find themselves as adults. Some volunteer over this period so they can gain some experience. Then when they are ready they go off to find careers as they feel they are in a strong and settled place to do so.

Internships

Finding an internship after university can be a great way of gaining experience and check out the sector you like. Internships do pay less that full time positions but they do look better on your CV. You can ask for recommendation letters and the role could lead in to a full-time permanent position if you impress. Make sure to get applying or these before you graduate as they will fill up fast.

Volunteering Experience

Start volunteering which will help boost your CV. Being a volunteer can give you transferable skills like communication, empathy, time management and adaptability. It can also lead to a paid position through networking. Additionally, it is extremely rewarding to give back to your community.
