What happens at open days can be amazing

What is an open day and why is it amazing?

An open day is an amazing opportunity for you to go and see potential universities. It will give you a real on site feel to if its suitable for you. It gives you the opportunity to see the facilities and speak to students and alumni. Also, your able to tour the accommodation area giving you some real insight to life on campus. You might even be able to sit in on some lectures, giving you a real look into the world of university!

This opportunity is amazing for many reasons but it really does make you feel like you are a part of the university community and gives you a great insight to know if you will be settled there.

When should I start looking?

Most universities will host more than one open day, it is advised to get booked on as early as you can so you do not miss out. Check out UCAS for a good list of open days or look directly on the university you want to attends website for when they are hosting theirs.

Plan ahead

Check out the university’s plan and decide what you want to participate in. There will be lots of activities running throughout, so be sure to know what you want to achieve on your visit.

Write a list of questions down to ask so you do not forget when your there.

The university will advise you on what to bring along with you. We would recommend a pen and paper to take notes, a bag to carry things in plus wear a comfortable pair of shoes. Its going to be a long day.

Plan how you are going to get there and who with. Its always worth checking the routes for any roadworks/train strikes. If you taking someone with you ensure they know the plan and times to meet.

If you have any special requirements or disabilities phone ahead and speak to the university. In addition to this they could have a disability support team who can ensure ease of access for you.

Most of all enjoy the experience and soak in everything you can.

If you cannot make an open day

Look online to see if they offer a virtual tour. This way you can still see the campus for yourself and find out more about the local area.

Additionally, some university websites offer a chat bot service. This allows you to connect with students and alumni to answer any questions you may have. Failing that you could always ring and speak to student services.

The world is your oyster, look around and see what is best for you.
