Their staff members also undertake examinations and progression through the Charted Institute of Insurance (CII) and other professional bodies dependent on the role.

Roles & Responsibilities

We are looking for a skilled landscaper/landscape horticulturist with excellent plant knowledge and leadership skills. You’ll attend a variety of damages to green spaces and use your years of hands-on experience to work out how to put the damage right. You’ll be an integral part of the planning and costing process and take the lead on undertaking the works, working alongside a small gang of trades and liaising with sub-contractors as needed.

Purpose

You will be the go-to for handling repairs to green-spaces, from attending site to documenting the damage, working out what needs to be done through to hands on completing the repairs alongside a person or small gang who you lead. At all times ensuring Health and Safety is at the forefront of everything you and those you oversee do.

Key Responsibilities

  • Attend locations throughout the U.K. to document damage caused to green spaces by a TPPD claim. Providing the know-how needed to work out how to reinstate the area to its pre-loss condition.
  • Attending site to undertake works to the greenspace as the site foreman, upskilling the trades you work alongside while ensuring the scheduled timeframe is met.
  • Support works planning by liaising with nurseries and other suppliers to obtain the best cost and locate and procure plants and bespoke materials
  • Provide a go-to referral point for all matters involving plants including identifying, planting conditions and sourcing, alongside hard and soft landscaping.
  • Liaising with sub-contractors and internal staff to arrange joint site visits and to co-ordinate multi-trade delivery of the works.
  • Leading by example in adherence to H&S standards, always applying procedures, policies and best practice.

Expectations

  • Find solutions to overcome seasonal restrictions preventing planting works from taking place, aiming for year-round delivery of site works where feasible.
  • Find solutions to deliver works without needing to revisit site post-delivery to cultivate or maintain planting.
  • Ensure the works proposed are the most cost-effective option and apply the correct level of indemnity.
  • Up-skill those you work alongside informally during works delivery and when requested through formal training sessions.
  • Collaborate with internal staff to plan and coordinate works.
  • Thinking “on your feet” while on site to overcome issues with works delivery which do not meet the criteria for escalation.
  • All work undertaken and behaviour meets Company quality standards and is delivered within the agreed timeframe.
  • Full adherence to company H&S standards, processes and procedures.

Skills Required

  • You have excellent plant knowledge and for anything you don’t know, you know where you can find the answer.
  • Undertaken hard and soft landscaping works professionally, you’re comfortable planning, costing and doing the work.
  • At ease taking the lead and working with a variety of different people, with a proven track record of overseeing or managing others while undertaking works.
  • Enjoy sharing your knowledge and skills with colleagues and ideally have trained others as part of previous employment.
  • Comfortable working on a variety of green spaces, domestic gardens, commercial sites, farmers hedges, to verges at the side of the road.
  • Place Health and Safety at the forefront of everything you do.
  • Take pride in how you present yourself to customers and clients, always ensuring you are professional and polite.
  • Be an excellent communicator who can think on their feet when they need an immediate solution.
  • Enjoy working as part of a wider team and collaborating to achieve the best possible result.
  • Would like to obtain your tickets and formal site Health and Safety certificates. If you don’t hold them already.

Essential Qualifications and Experience

  • Significant practical experience in landscape horticulture or arboriculture
  • Strong knowledge of plants, plant husbandry and horticultural techniques
  • Experience of supervising or managing others
  • A full, clean driving licence
  • IT literate
  • Certificates or diplomas in horticulture or practical horticulture or, equivalent practical experience
  • Experience with light and/or heavy plant

Desirable Qualifications and Experience

  • Degree or equivalent in relevant field
  • Previously holding a ground, garden or estate management position
  • Machinery operation tickets

HOURS OF WORK: 8.45-5.00pm Monday to Friday – Northampton office and home-based, with regular field work 

HOLIDAY: 25 days plus bank holidays, an extra 16 hours of time off in lieu taken at no more than two-hour slots which equates to the total of 27 days plus bank holidays.  An additional day is also given for your Birthday if it falls on a weekday.
