You will be required to join the systems team, working as part of a team offering a service to blue chip companies across the world with excellent customer service.
Roles & Responsibilities
An exciting new opportunity for an IT savvy graduate to join a dynamic firm and progress.
The main focus: To develop and test computer software for warehouse management and control systems.
You will start with the business on an induction Program, going out to visit client sites to get a good understanding of the systems currently in place and developing knowledge. You will shadow other members of the team and gradually work on your own projects.
Develop software as per the system and module design documentation produced for projects, adhering to SOLID principles.
Carry out unit testing to ensure that the software performs as per the design and according to company standards (with respect to screen layouts, behaviour etc.).
Develop software within the time specified, or provide early feedback where this is not possible.
Use experience gained on previous projects and in previous companies to challenge design where there is a more appropriate solution.
Use the agreed change control mechanism to do so the issue logging system (currently Jira) to report upon faults in core package software.
Use the company development tools and computer systems provided for your role
Assist with software build deliveries to test and site environments
Follow Company Health and Safety procedures and responsibilities
The job holder will:
Be prepared to travel to client sites
Be assessed on software completion dates – targeted vs. actual.
Be assessed on software quality – number of faults found during functional, beta and acceptance testing.
Be assessed on their contribution to project success – attitude, contribution of ideas to improve project, commitment to team meetings.
Be assessed on their contribution to the overall team performance e.g. attitude to work, contribution to team meetings, improvement suggestions, effective use of free time
Degree educated in a relevant technical field
Programming Languages. experience in relevant coding languages (C++, Java).
Works well in a team, natural collaborator
Strongly supportive of the line manager
Can work within a matrix environment (does not mind being called on to help out a different team for a short-term piece of work, does not mind taking direction from different project managers as teams change.)
Commitment to task (able to start and persist with specific course of action while exhibiting high motivation and a sense of urgency; willing to commit to long hours of work at key point where this becomes necessary.
English – fluent in written and spoken English
High level of communication skills
Mobility – willing to stay away from home, work in different locations and on client sites when necessary (approx. 10% of time)
Can take on constructive feedback well
Escalates problems when they can no longer take action to resolve issues
Problem solving & decision making
Operating Systems: understanding of Unix based operating systems. Able to write shell scripts.
ISAM model databases – knowledge of access mechanisms.
Relational model databases – knowledge of access mechanisms.
Use of Code Management System – some experience
Use of coding standards – familiar with standards
Continuous Improvement – looks for opportunities for process improvement
Commercial Programming Experience – at least 6 months.
Unit Testing – Able to create and execute Unit Test scripts. Understands the company standards.
IT – deep and broad understanding of information technology.
