Our client was originally founded over 35 years ago as a distributor of EPoS solutions from third parties. By the early 1990’s they were developing their own EPoS systems which has grown and changed to move with an ever-changing retail landscape.

As well as being vastly experienced as solution providers to the horticultural sector, they also offer solutions to many other sectors including equestrian retailers, pet shops and superstores, aquatic retailers as well as many general retailers and has a long history of working with outdoor shops and country stores.

Roles & Responsibilities

Working with a team of talented individuals, experts in their field, this opportunity supports personal development, helping you become the very best you can be.
During the first 3 months with this company, you will be supported with an excellent training program that will involve coaching, mentoring, shadowing, getting to fully understand the products/services and spending time with the team, understanding the whole operation. Coaching and mentoring will be ongoing past the initial training period.
Research and identify new business opportunities – including new markets, growth areas, trends, customers, partnerships, products and services – or new ways of reaching existing markets
Seek out the appropriate contact in an organisation
Meet with customers/clients face to face or over the phone
Foster and develop relationships with customers/clients
Understand the needs of your customers and be able to respond effectively with a plan of how to meet these
Think strategically – seeing the bigger picture and setting aims and objectives in order to develop and improve the business
Work strategically – carrying out necessary planning in order to implement operational changes
Prepare quotes for services and products for all sales leads
Have a good understanding of the businesses’ products or services and be able to advise others about them
Discuss strategy and activities with the Directors
Liaise with the team internally as appropriate
Attend trade shows including exhibiting across the UK
Attend seminars, conferences and events where appropriate
Keep abreast of trends and changes in your field.
Help to plan and execute sales campaigns
Create a sales pipeline
Negotiate pricing with customers, and suppliers in some cases
Carry out sales forecasts and analysis and present your findings to senior management/the board of directors
Develop the business sales and marketing strategy.
What to expect:
You’ll work in an office environment, but will be required to travel for face-to-face meetings with customers or to attend events and trade shows.
It can be challenging trying to create new business opportunities, in addition to the constant pressure of meeting or exceeding targets. However, business development is quite a creative role and can be very satisfying.
You’ll be expected to dress smartly, especially for meetings, though slightly more relaxed business casual attire may be acceptable at other times.
