Staying Positive – Tips & Tricks To Change Your Mindset

Mindset Is Everything

Try to find a positive side in all situations. The way you think about things affects the feelings you’ll create so try to put a positive spin on every situation. You can’t control what happens to you, but one thing you can control is how you respond. It has been proven that people tend to focus strongly on the negatives in their lives and tend to forget about the good. Just remember to be grateful for what you have; it can even be helpful to make a list of everything you’re grateful for so that you can refer back to it when you feel down. It’s definitely easier said than done but after some practice, positive thinking will become second nature.

Create A Positive Environment

Circle yourself with the people who make you feel good and help you to stay positive in negative situations. The worst thing you can do is surround yourself with people who drag you down. You can also spend time winding down by reading positive books, motivating movies and listening to good music. Letting in natural light can also boost your mood, just do whatever you can to feel better.

Take Care Of Your Body

Exercise is a great way to clear your head and feel better. Physical activity has been proven time and time again to help fight depressive feelings and low moods. So not only does it have amazing physical health benefits, but it can also help you to feel better mentally too. Also getting enough sleep is extremely important to take care of your body. When you’re tired your brain is lower in function and you’re less likely to be able to handle difficult situations effectively. This can easily lead to negative thoughts. Go Outside

Going for a walk in fresh air is a great way to clear your head and help you to think positively. It can help you to disconnect from any issues you’re facing in life. Or if you can’t get outside you can always introduce some house plants to your home to take away that dreary feeling of being stuck inside.

Help Others

Helping others gives you a strong feeling of self-fulfilment and help you to think more positively about yourself and therefore your situations. Volunteering and charity work can also be a way to spend your time and help you to stop overthinking which usually leads to a spiral of negative thoughts. It will give you an outlet for any built-up energy and will help you to focus on something other than your problems.

Express Your Feelings

Expressing our emotions allows a feeling of relief. Holding in your thoughts and negative emotions will only make you feel worse and can lead to a bigger outburst later down the line. It’s so important to process your emotions as you feel them, hiding them won’t make them go away. Talk to someone that you trust, or if you don’t feel comfortable there are helplines and charities available to listen to. You can even start a journal where you note down your feelings which can also be a release. Remember to note down the positives too so you can refer back to them.

Accept Your Situation & Find Solutions

The first step to healing from any situation is to accept what you can’t change. Again much easier said than done, but accepting the aspects of your life that you can’t change and instead focusing on creating solutions will make you proactive and help you not to worry. You’ll then have more energy to focus on the areas of your life that you can change.
